Why We Compound Ivermectin
Ivermectin dosing is based on body weight, and most people's correct dose doesn't match a standard, one-size-fits-all strength. At Joshua Brown Family Pharmacy, every ivermectin prescription we fill is compounded specifically to the patient's weight-based dose.
How weight-based dosing actually works
Ivermectin protocols are calculated in mg per kilogram of body weight, under a provider-directed protocol. For example, at 6'2" and 220 lbs, a weight-based protocol might call for a 30mg dose. With standard 3mg tablets, that means taking 10 individual tablets at once to reach the correct amount.
What compounding solves
Rather than approximating your dose with a fixed strength, we compound a single capsule prepared to your exact weight-based amount:
- Precise, individualized dosing — your capsule is prepared to your exact weight-based amount, not rounded to the nearest standard strength
- One capsule per dose — simpler to take, with less room for error
-Formulation built around you — we work within an approved provider protocol, not a one-size-fits-all strength
What's actually in the capsule
Our compounded ivermectin capsules are prepared with attention to what's necessary and what isn't:
-No added dyes
-No unnecessary binders or fillers beyond what's needed to prepare the capsule
-A plant-based cellulose capsule shell (rather than gelatin), which also makes it appropriate for patients with Alpha-Gal Syndrome — learn more about our Alpha-Gal-friendly compounding →
Working with your provider
Compounded ivermectin is prepared based on a prescriber-directed protocol, not dispensed independently. Our pharmacist team works alongside your provider to make sure your dose and formulation match what's clinically appropriate for you.
This is a compounded preparation and not an FDA-approved commercial product. It is prepared for you based on individual assessment and a provider-directed protocol.
Is compounded Ivermectin FDA-approved?
Compounded medications are patient-specific preparations and are not themselves FDA-approved commercial products — but they're prepared using FDA-approved active ingredients under an approved provider protocol.
Does compounding cost more than standard tablets?
Pricing varies based on your prescribed dosage and quantity — contact the pharmacy for details specific to your prescription.
Can I request a specific capsule type (like cellulose)?
Yes — let us know if you have Alpha-Gal Syndrome or other sensitivities, and we'll prepare your capsule accordingly.
